CURRICULUM AND ASSESSMENTS

The Center for Achievement customizes the curriculum for each student in each core area based on their learning progressions and mastery of grade level standards.Students receive a weekly learning plan which details their pathway for learning. Student agency is fostered by data tracking and reflection. The teacher and student are co-developers of learning and work collaboratively to establish learning goals.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Classrooms are literacy-rich environments that contain libraries across all disciplines. Students utilize the HMH Core Curriculum for explicit reading instruction and for personalization.  The writing curriculum is Units of Study, which exposes students to different genres of writing though mentor text.  Students publish work and celebrate their writing quarterly 

MATH

Students utilize the Big Ideas Curriculum for Math for personalization and explicit instruction, which provides a universal design for learning.  With a strong emphasis on problem solving in the classroom, students can transfer their mathematical knowledge to new concepts and apply their understanding to real-life situations. Through practice and problem solving, students become more comfortable with the problem-solving process to become strategic mathematical thinkers. 

SCIENCE

Students utilize the Amplify Science Curriculum which blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.
 

SOCIAL STUDIES

MyWorld Interactive Curriculum is used for Social Studies.T encourages active inquiry while introducing civics, economics, geography, and history concepts. Students develop critical thinking, problem solving, and communicating skills for engaged civic life. The pro

AVID STEM Connection offers students the chance to see the world through the lens of a STEM mindset as they communicate new ideas and think critically about real-world issues. Lessons are based on the 5E instructional model of engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate. This approach fosters discovery, exploration, and curiosity and enables students to deeply engage and take ownership of their learning.

Personalized Adaptive Learning

Waggle engages students in adaptive skills-based practice that adjusts in real time. Waggle is a Web-based program that allows students to effectively practice math and ELA skills. Student practice is personalized with customized feedback, and is well organized. The program focuses on three key metrics: proficiency, grit, and pacing level  Waggle fosters a love of reading with a wide variety of high-quality, age appropriate genres as well as a love of math through gamification.
